Experience the Benefits of Chia Seeds for Babies with Berry, Date, and Chia Seed Purée

Chia seeds have so many health benefits: they're high in fiber, protein, omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus--among other nutrients. When mixed with a liquid, chia seeds plump up and take on a gelatinous texture, like a pudding, so don't worry if your puree gets a little thicker after it has been refrigerated. If you want a thinner puree, simply add a little more liquid and stir before serving. We recommend this recipe for babies 9+ months old.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups raspberries blueberries, blackberries or a combination.
  • 1 Medjool Date, pitted and diced
  • 1 teaspoon of chia seeds

Directions

  1. Place all ingredients into the One Step Food Maker and press "Steam + Blend" for 10 minutes.
  2. Let cool and thicken in the refrigerator overnight.

This puree makes a filling afternoon snack for a toddler and adult too. It's texture is like pudding. This puree is also a great faux jam; just serve on your morning toast as a delicious spread!

Dates and berries are the ideal duo for introducing natural sweetness and essential nutrients into your baby’s meals. Dates are a great source of iron and fiber, which aid in digestion and help boost energy levels. Berries, such as blueberries and strawberries, are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, promoting immune health. Together with chia seeds, the date berry pureé provides a nutritious, flavorful, and texture-rich option for chia baby food that your little one will love.

Are chia seeds hard to digest for babies?
No, when prepared properly, chia seeds are easy for babies to digest. Soaking the seeds in liquid helps soften them, making them gentle on your baby’s digestive system. Babies and chia seeds are a good match, as the seeds also help with digestion due to their high fiber content. However, it is important to note Chia seeds MUST be soaked before being eaten, as they expand when wet and having them expand in your babies stomach or throat can be uncomfortable or even dangerous.

Can I freeze the Berry, Date, and Chia Seed Pureé?
Yes, you can easily freeze this chia baby food! After preparing the pureé, portion it into small freezer-safe containers. You can store it in the freezer for up to 3 months. Just thaw it overnight in the fridge before serving.

What are the health benefits of dates for babies?
