When Can Babies Eat Cranberries Safely?

Plenty of sites and experts will tell parents that babies are safe to start experiencing the bold and bright flavors of cranberries at the 6-month mark, but we recommend waiting just a little bit longer to help guarantee the most enjoyable experience to your little one, whose palette or tummy may not be quite ready for cranberries’ famous tangy taste– waiting 8-12 months gives them a little more time to mature.

Is Cranberry Sauce Acidic?

In short, yes– cranberries’ naturally tangy, sour quality comes from their acidity; this means that not every baby or toddler will immediately enjoy the bright flavor of this holiday berry favorite. Moreover, their higher acidity can sometimes cause irritation around the mouth, or even cause diaper rash. If your little one seems to be experiencing a reaction from cranberries, they may not quite be ready for this recipe. Make sure to observe any signs of redness after preparing cranberry for baby, whether you’re using this recipe or another.

What Other Nutrients Are in Cranberries?

Aside from the three vitamins we mentioned above, cranberries are packed with a range of other nutrients, too! Cranberry for babies is a healthy choice for parents to incorporate into their growing little one’s diet, and this holiday recipe makes for an even tastier way to experience the benefits! This holiday favorite is packed with fiber and carbs, helping with your baby’s digestion, as well as providing a source for natural sugars and energy. Antioxidants like manganese and vitamin E are also present, helping to keep your little one growing healthily. Moreover, copper can be found in cranberries, which is great for heart health!
